Hey Mama! Pregnancy, with all its miraculous moments, can also be a journey filled with challenges and discomforts. It's a time when we might not feel like ourselves, grappling with unfamiliar sensations and changes in our bodies. From the soreness and swelling to the constant quest for comfort, navigating through pregnancy can sometimes feel like a Herculean task. As the due date approaches, simple tasks like walking from the bedroom to the kitchen can leave us BREATHLESS. The exhaustion is real, and the desire for comfort often trumps the pursuit of fashion. Personally, I've experienced this tug-of-war between comfort and style, especially when it comes to choosing what to wear. This time around I've discovered a solution: a capsule wardrobe that strikes the perfect balance between comfort and style, offering versatility and ease without compromising on either.
THE BASICS!
Grab these budget friendly pieces now for your most comfy and chic pregnancy ever!
1. Choose between these great stretchy yet supportive leggings or stretchy and buttery soft shorts! You may just need the one, but I found I needed both options. You can pair these with a tank or an oversized shirt for on the go or to dress up with accessories and a cute jacket!
Of course leggings are a staple piece of every modern mom’s wardrobe. I was able to fit into both of these early on in my pregnancy even with a rather small bump, and I continued to wear them into postpartum until I fit into my regular clothes again. These were perfect for my yoga and meditation during pregnancy as well! I even packed these leggings in my hospital bag for my going home outfit. 2. This oversized linen button down doubles for maternity and postpartum with great for accessibility. I’m talking to you breastfeeding mamas! It’s a dressier option, and the flowy lightweight linen options are always going to help you stay cool. It’s such a great piece for staying comfy and looking cute!
3. The oversized t-shirt is a staple piece for me in the summer, with leggings or cycle shorts and my favorite white sneakers. Just the perfect errand running ensemble. Look put together, but also as always stay comfy! I find these a great staple piece anyway, and postpartum you will be thrilled to have them around, especially as a built-in cover for all you breastfeeding mamas!
4. The t-shirt sleeve dress that you can wear to anything! You can wear this to errands, with sneakers and a ballcap, or you can add some beautiful jewelry and a nice short wedge heel to dress it up for any event. It’s going to be chic and comfy (you’re catching the trend, right?) either way!
5. Tanks tops! Ok these are perfect for summer or just as an undershirt paired with leggings, shorts or even jeans and skirts! Again, what a versatile piece to dress up or down. Just add a jacket or sweater over top if you need a bit of style or warmth!
6. Jeans! Sometimes we just need to go out and feel like we look like our normal selves with a cute and casual pair of jeans. Paired with your oversized tee or the flowy linen top! These are a great fit for dressing up or down and can pair with almost any shoe! And you can usually stick with these for the first month or so postpartum before you can fit back into your old jeans or need to purchase new! That’s ok, too!
7. The Midi Pencil Skirt! If you’re not wanting to commit to the whole dress, this is great for casual hangouts, errands, or even workwear. Pair with the tank top with a denim jacket or cardigan for a pulled together look. I’m partial to wearing my white sneakers with my pencil skirts!
I have a few of all of these pieces, in different colors, and I never have to struggle to find something I can wear to any event for any occasion while pregnant. And I always know I’ll be comfy in any of them! Yes, I’m that concerned about comfort, and I know you will be too! Prep your capsule wardrobe early so you will be ready to enjoy this pregnancy in style and comfort. It's also important to have the right undies and bras! I went through so many with a lot of trial and error during my first pregnancy. Especially since our bodies fluctuate so much that what works for the 1st trimester doesn't necessarily work for 3rd. And postpartum was a whole new ball game!
