This is a starter’s guide for the SAHM to start making an income working from home!

Hey Mama! I can confidently say being a stay-at-home mom is one of the most rewarding jobs, and has certainly been my favorite, but it can also come with financial challenges. We went down to one income due to the choice to move back near family, which meant I could not keep my job. Fortunately, the digital age has opened up an abundance of opportunities for moms to earn money from the comfort of their homes! I guess I didn’t have much motivation to seek out those “side-gig” opportunities until I became a mom determined to stay home with my little. I sure wish I had pursued this before so I could have been prepared! I was even more motivated to kickstart this journey when I learned about baby #2, and decided I will not be returning to work anytime soon! Below we will explore various side hustles and work-from-home opportunities I’ve discovered that can help anyone, even the stay-at-home mom supplement their family income!

1. Freelance Writing or Editing:

Many companies and online publications are in constant need of quality content. Stay-at-home moms with a knack for writing or editing can offer their services on freelancing platforms like Upwork, Freelancer, or Fiverr. From blog posts, podcast scripts, or website copy, the demand for skilled writers and editors is high. You can find just about anywhere that needs writing.

2. Virtual Assistance:

With the rise of remote work, the demand for virtual assistants has surged. Stay-at-home moms can leverage their organizational skills to provide administrative support to businesses and entrepreneurs. If you are anything like me, I worked hard at my job for years, and I developed so many skills to adapt in any situation. You can still use these skills by working for yourself creating a virtual assistant business! A lot of online entrepreneurs are looking for a VA to cover tasks that may include email management, scheduling appointments, social media management, and more.

3. Online Tutoring or Teaching:

If you have expertise in a particular subject or skill, consider becoming an online tutor or teacher. Platforms like VIPKid, Chegg Tutors, and Tutor.com connect educators with students worldwide. Whether it's academic tutoring, language instruction, or music lessons, there's a demand for online educators. In a lot of these cases, you do not need teaching experience! I personally have worked as a substitute teacher, and it can be so rewarding to work with kids!

4. E-commerce and Dropshipping:

For moms with an entrepreneurial spirit, starting an e-commerce business or dropshipping venture can be lucrative. Platforms like Shopify and Etsy make it easy to set up an online store and sell products ranging from handmade crafts to digital downloads. I dabbled in starting a candle making business when I was younger, and I wish I had continued the venture! Etsy is such an easy platform to use for physical or digital products! There are many ways you can get creative with this!

5. Affiliate Marketing:

Affiliate marketing is another popular way to earn passive income from home. By promoting products or services through affiliate links, stay-at-home moms can earn a commission for every sale generated. This has to be the most creative option, because it can be done through so many avenues like blog posts, social media, or email marketing. You can set up a blog in a few weeks, or if you already have a good following on social media, you may be able to start promoting! There are affiliate marketplaces such as Clickbank, Cj affiliates, and Share-a-Sale. Or you can start with simply promoting your favorite products from amazon!

6. Social Media Jobs

Did you know there are actually jobs where you just work from social media? And it’s so simple you can help companies promote their businesses through social media just using your phone, tablet or laptop. These are in demand entry-level jobs that pay up to $35/hour!

Here’s a quiz that will help you decide if this is right for you!
